CITAR GEO Audit: is your site ready to be cited by AI?
Answer 20 questions about your site. You get a score for each letter of the CITAR method and the three priorities to fix first.
Important: this is a self-audit. It scores what you answer, not what your site actually has, and it doesn't replace an audit by someone looking at the site. The score measures readiness; it doesn't guarantee citations. Your answers stay in your browser. If you accepted analytics cookies, I only record the score per letter, with no way of knowing which site it is.
The audit's 20 questions
Four questions for each letter of the CITAR method.
C - Clarity of entity
- Does the site have Person or Organization markup with the same @id on every page, not just the homepage?
- Does that markup include sameAs links to verifiable profiles (LinkedIn, institutional pages, publications)?
- Does the brand or person have a Wikidata item backed by external references?
- Are your name and what you do described the same way on the site and on those profiles?
I - Information that's citable
- Does each section open with a direct answer of 40 to 60 words, right after the heading?
- Do your core concepts have an explicit definition ("X is...")?
- Do the numbers you use carry a source and a year?
- Does each section have its own anchor, so anyone can point to the exact fragment?
T - Trust
- Does every article name a real author, with a profile page?
- Does the content bring first-hand experience (cases, measurements, mistakes), not just what already exists elsewhere?
- Are your claims backed by primary sources rather than third-party quotes?
- Is there proof of your authority outside your own site (press, institutions, publications)?
A - All-engine reach
- Is the site verified in Bing Webmaster Tools, with the sitemap submitted?
- Do you use IndexNow to tell Bing about new or changed pages?
- Does robots.txt let AI search crawlers in (for example OAI-SearchBot and PerplexityBot)?
- Can the main content be read without JavaScript?
R - Results tracking
- Do you keep a fixed list of prompts that you rerun in ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini, logging whether you're cited?
- Are those prompts written the way customers ask, not the way the brand thinks they ask?
- Does GA4 have a dedicated channel for AI traffic?
- Do you review these results on a set schedule?
